The Operational Risk Sr Officer I is a strategic professional who closely follows latest trends in own field and adapts them for application within own job and the business. Typically a small number of people within the business that provide the same level of expertise. Excellent communication skills required in order to negotiate internally, often at a senior level. Developed communication and diplomacy skills are required in order to guide, influence and convince others, in particular colleagues in other areas and occasional external customers. Accountable for significant direct business results or authoritative advice regarding the operations of the business. Necessitates a degree of responsibility over technical strategy. Primarily affects a sub-function. Responsible for handling staff management issues, including resource management and allocation of work within the team/project.

The US Consumer Wealth Management (USCWM) Issue Management Business Operational Risk Manager (BORM) is a risk and controls subject matter expert with industry expertise managing wealth/investment related Issues and Corrective Action Plans (CAPs) from start to finish.  The Issue Management BORM requires an in-depth understanding of how sub-functional areas collectively integrate as well as contribute to the objectives of the entire function.  Advanced communication and diplomacy skills are required to guide, influence, and provide credible challenge throughout the issue management lifecycle.  Proactive and early engagement with various stakeholders is required to ensure appropriate support to the CWM Business in identifying, escalating, documenting, and remediating issues in accordance with Citi’s Global Issue Management Policy, Standard, and Procedure.  The Issue Management BORM is a member of a small, specialized team.


Responsibilities:

  • Manage and drive the Issue Management process from start to finish, ensuring alignment with Citi’s Global Issue Management Policy, Standard, and Procedure
  • Engage, communicate, and influence corrective action plan owners and issue managers throughout the issue management lifecycle
  • Strictly apply policy and experience to challenge and document an appropriate tier rating (level of severity) for all issues
  • Leverage Citi’s Issue and Corrective Action Plan Management System (iCAPS) to document, manage, and track all issues
  • Ensure the establishment of aggressive, realistic, and complete CAPs commensurate with the issue/risk
  • Provide issue transparency via consistent communication and reporting to senior leaders within your own, and supported Lines of Business, including escalations where appropriate
  • Develop and monitor issue related metrics to validate timeliness, quality assurance, and trending
  • Drive a culture of continuous improvement and efficiency within the Issue Management space as well as with our involvement with our business partners, inclusive of efforts to automate and move controls from detective to preventative, where possible
  • Keep abreast of the organization’s operational processes and best practices for business strategy to aid in cross-functional and cross-organizational alignment to best practices
  • Build partnerships with supported Lines of Business leaders, Legal, Compliance, Risk, Internal Audit and Training, so that risk related efforts are aligned with strategy and department efforts, ensuring downstream impacts are considered and business solutions are optimized
  • Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of relevant experience in Operations, Risk & Controls, and/or Issue Management
  • Wealth/Investment business and product knowledge/experience
  • Demonstrated ability to provide thought leadership and challenge, where appropriate
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and run conference calls with business partners from multiple disciplines to reach a common goal

Education:

  • Bachelor’s/University degree or equivalent experience
  • Master’s degree preferred
